The Cape Henlopen Food Basket (CHFB) is an emergency food service that provides assistance to anyone needing help within the boundaries of the Cape Henlopen School District in Sussex County, Delaware. Clients outside the district are referred to an agency serving the client’s home address. If a client has need for food more than 3 times in a 3 month period, the Food Basket refers them to Delaware State Social Services for further evaluation and if merited, a referral back to the CHFB for more food. The CHFB makes no evaluation of the client(s) needs; everyone is given some food.
WHAT WE CAN PROVIDE
We provide needy families a 10 day supply of canned and frozen food, as well as a supermarket voucher which allows them to receive fresh milk, eggs, and margarine. Our food is supplied by the USDA, by grants to non-profits, by local supermarkets, and by a generous Cape community of organizations and individuals. Clients not in our service district receive one emergency food bag and are given directions to an agency serving their area.
HOURS OF OPERATION
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Closed on federal holidays).
